There are clients. And then there’s Josie.
For over twenty years, she’s been part of the fabric of my life — warm, witty, book-loving, artistic, brilliant, beautiful. The kind of friend you don’t expect to find across a border, a generation, and a sea of locs.
Josie lives in Virginia. I live in Toronto. Every time the Dave Matthews Band tours this way, she and her husband Jeff make the drive north. And every time — before the concert — she comes straight to my chair.
It’s a tradition now. Part of who we are.
In two decades, we’ve shared more than loc care. We’ve shared books, music, laughter, seasons of life. We’ve watched each other grow. And somehow, through it all, we’ve stayed deeply connected.
A Quiet Moment in the Studio
During her last visit, while working through her loc maintenance, I noticed something she hadn’t.
A small, visibly dry and irritated-looking area on the back of her scalp.
She couldn’t feel it. She didn’t know it was there. But I could see it.
